Public health is the science and art of creating healthy communities through education, research and promotion of healthy lifestyles. A diet of fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans and seeds, is a health promoting diet and many natural health practitioners have used detoxification and immune system supporting diets to cure heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and countless other infirmities.
Wellbeing – used by the World Health Organisation (1946) in its definition of health as a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or inirmity.” More recently the concept was described as feeling good and functioning well” (New Economic Foundation, 2008).
APHL was invited to participate in the September 16th meeting of the Federal Experts Security Advisory Panel (FESAP) to provide a perspective on how potential changes in biosecurity requirements would impact public health laboratories, especially those in the Laboratory Response Network (LRN).
Students from anywhere in the University (and from outside the University) who meet the entry requirements can apply for the Bachelor of Philosophy Honours program and this guarantees that Public Health students will be exposed to research methods and topics from wide ranging fields of study.
Also, in its Healthy 2020 initiative, the federal government called for an increase in public health experts across the country to prevent and treat diseases, identify potential threats, and facilitate collaboration both within and across communities.
